About Wonder Roots LLC

The world can be a better place when we focus on providing children an environment where they have time and space to create, collaborate and communicate with peers, where nature and play take center stage and the role of the adult is to step back and tune in. We provide year-round outdoor enrichment programs, summer camps and field trips to children ages toddler to teen, as well as connect families and educators to resources and information through professional development and parent workshops.

Colleen Christman

Colleen has a passion for discovering the strengths of each individual and looks for the positives in every situation. Her patience, hard work and calming demeanor have helped her and those around her blossom. Named Building Bright Futures early childhood professional of the year in 2012 (Chittenden County, Vermont USA), she is the true sense of a resource provider-- meeting each person where they are and providing them the tools to grow successfully.

With over 15 years in education, Colleen has worked with ages birth to adults. She is a Vermont Northern Lights approved instructor of professional development and a Vermont licensed teacher, holding endorsements in secondary and early childhood education. Her experience in the public and private school setting as well as alternative and homeschool learning programs allows her a wide perspective on developing learning environments for diverse learners.

In her work with children, she recognizes the importance of supporting the WHOLE child and as a result-- she is a fierce advocate of PLAY. Colleen offers programming to children and workshops and professional development opportunities to adults working with children. Her workshops offer insight and strategies on topics such as play, curriculum development, assessment, teaching/parenting practices, child development, and learning environments that support child growth.

Her interests have taken her on her own playful adventures-- exploring and implementing the concepts of homesteading and frugal living. Using her background in the arts, she likes to get crafty and took this to a new level by working alongside her husband to build their own home.

Most recently, her passion to inspire and empower children through meaningful play experiences led her to TimberNook, an outdoor enrichment program for children. Colleen became trained and licensed to provide TimberNook programs to the Burlington and Central Vermont areas and is excited to be offering programs to families and schools in her wider community.
